Meet Matt Furness
Based near Norwich, Norfolk Matt has been playing drums since he was eight years old, and having passed his Rockschool Grade 8 exam with a distinction at 14 years of age has been gigging extensively since then with a wide range of professional musicians, playing a variety of musical genres. He also teaches the drums on a private basis and in schools.
Matt is an accomplished session drummer and competent sight reader. He believes that this is an essential requirement as whether you are working in a studio or live the need to read can come up at any time, saving the artist time and money by reducing the need for extensive rehearsals. All of Matt’s students are taught to read music from the very start.
With a great sounding kit Matt is regularly told he has real good time and feel in his playing, with or without a click. He has played as a pit musician for theatre productions of ‘Grease’, ‘9 to 5’, ‘Hairspray’, ‘Little Shop Of Horrors’ and ‘Priscilla Queen of the Desert’. In addition he has performed at functions for professional Championship footballers and extravagant weddings among others, whether in theatres or at private estates.
He has also played and headlined at the famous 100 Club, Upton Blues Festival, HRH Blues and the Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival, with performances at festivals scheduled for 2020.
Matt is a member of the Musician’s Union having Public Liability insurance for his drumming business, following the standards set out in their Code of Practice, and is available as a session drummer throughout the UK. In addition, he has a clean updated enhanced DBS check in place.
